Travel Itinerary
08:30: Our private guide and driver will meet us at the hotel and depart for Son Tay, a historic town about 1.5 hours west of Hanoi,
Our first stop is Son Tay Ancient Citadel, built in 1822 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, the only ancient citadel in Vietnam constructed entirely of laterite, a survival from the Nguyen Dynasty, it once played a vital role in defending the northwestern gateway to Thang Long.
We then continue to Duong Lam Ancient Village. Passing its ancient gate, we will visit Mong Phu Communal House, Giang Van Minh Temple, and well-preserved traditional houses while strolling through the village's narrow lanes to discover the unique culture and daily life of the Northern Delta.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, featuring traditional specialties of Duong Lam.
In the afternoon, we will visit Mia Pagoda, one of Northern Vietnam's most important pagodas. Best known for its collection of centuries-old Buddhist statues, the pagoda offers a peaceful atmosphere and the insight into the region's rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
After visiting Mia Pagoda, we will continue by our car to Phung Hung Temple, dedicated to Phung Hung (Bo Cai Dai Vuong), a national hero who led an uprising against the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century. Surrounded by centuries-old trees, the temple is admired for its tranquil setting and traditional moss-covered architecture.
We will then visit the nearby Ngo Quyen Temple and Mausoleum, honoring King Ngo Quyen, whose victory at the Battle of Bach Dang River in 938 AD marked Vietnam’s independence. Despite ongoing restoration, the temple retains its traditional charm and preserves two historic wooden stakes believed to have been used in the battle. The nearby mausoleum, built in 1874, is surrounded by 18 ancient duoi trees, now recognized as National Heritage Trees, adding to the site's historical significance.
After the visit, we will return to Hanoi. Arriving in Hanoi around 18h.
Goodbye, and hope to see you in another trip!
