3-day Akagera National Park Wildlife Safari

Tour highlights
Your 3-day Akagera National Park Wildlife Safari takes you to Akagera National Park, located in Eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. This safari offers an incredible opportunity to explore Rwanda’s only savanna national park, where game drives can be experienced exclusively.
Akagera National Park is home to the Big Five, with the recent reintroduction of lions. It is the only savanna park in Rwanda and hosts a diverse range of mammal species, including lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, and bushbucks. Most recently, black rhinos were introduced from South Africa, restoring Akagera’s status as a Big Five park, just as it was many years ago.
Travel Itinerary
Today, after a relaxed morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by our safari guide to start 3 Days Akagera National Park Wildlife Safari. The journey to the park takes approximately 2.5 hours, depending on stopovers along the way. As you travel through Rwanda’s stunning, winding landscapes, feel free to ask the guide to stop for photography.
Upon arrival at the park, you will enjoy a short game drive before proceeding to your accommodation for check-in. After settling in, you will have lunch before heading out for a boat trip on Lake Ihema. During the boat ride, you will observe hippos and crocodiles in the water or along the shores, as well as buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks.
Later in the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

About the Operator
We are a local team based in Rwanda, known as Rwanda Eco Company & Safaris, and we have been creating tailor made journeys across Rwanda and East Africa since 2015. All of what we sell are experiences that we know firsthand, meaning we have stayed in all the lodges, driven the roads, explored the parks, and spent time in the communities we recommend to our guests. Every trip is custom-made for the traveler, and we operate our safaris ourselves rather than subcontracting.
We believe that tourism should benefit the places people come to visit, so supporting conservation efforts and local communities is an important part of what we do. A portion of every trip goes towards supporting community initiatives and projects in the areas surrounding the national parks and destinations we visit, helping ensure that tourism creates positive benefits for both visitors and local residents.
