Travel Itinerary
During the tour of Coimbra, visitors will discover various attractions and traditions... They will stroll through narrow medieval streets and famous medieval squares, pass by monuments from various eras, and also visit some traditional shops, Fado houses, as well as local and national restaurants and pastry shops ( we'll have time to talk about local sweets and traditional dishes)
The main sights we'll see on the tour are :
- University of Coimbra - During our visit to the historic university campus, we’ll learn about its history, the university traditions that take place there, and which indoor spaces are open to visitors
- Bothanic Garden - A quick tour of the beautiful, sprawling 18th-century garden, filled with all kinds of plants
- Medieval Old Cathedral (interior) - A visit to one of Portugal’s most impressive cathedrals. Dating back to the 12th century, the cathedral has played a very important role in the political, architectural, and artistic history of Coimbra and Portugal.
- Monastery of Santa Cruz (visit to the church), One of the most prestigious churches in the country, it served as a school of immense importance, where one of the most prominent figures in the Catholic Church studied. It is a national pantheon, where two Portuguese kings are buried.

It doesn't include to the universitry library (because of logistical issues... time slot, availabilty, long visit).

My name is João Mendes, I am a certified guide from Coimbra. This is my own business. I do walking tours and am available for personalized visits, combining them with public transportation. My tours are mainly in Coimbra's region (Historic center of Coimbra, Conimbriga roman ruins, the largest and best-preserved Roman city, Jewish tour of Coimbra ). But sometimes i'am available to make other tours in other cities, such as, the historic center of Lisbon, Porto,,. I prefer to work with private and small groups.
