Tilman Pass Trek – 15 Days

Tour highlights
The Tilman Pass Trek is a challenging 15-day high-altitude adventure through some of Nepal’s most remote and spectacular Himalayan landscapes. Connecting the Langtang Valley with Panch Pokhari via the 5,320-meter Tilman Pass, this trek combines dramatic mountain scenery, traditional Himalayan villages, glacial terrain, alpine lakes, and wilderness camping into one demanding journey. Beginning with the classic Langtang Valley trail, the trek passes through lush forests, Tamang settlements, Langtang Village, and the renowned Kyanjin Gompa. An acclimatization day around Kyanjin provides an opportunity to explore the surrounding high-altitude landscape and prepare for the more demanding section ahead. Beyond Kyanjin Gompa, the trail leaves the more established Langtang trekking route and enters the remote Langshisha Kharka region. The landscape gradually changes into rugged alpine terrain, with moraine valleys, glaciers, rocky trails, and isolated mountain camps. Several nights are spent camping in remote locations, creating a true wilderness trekking experience far from the busy trails and developed trekking infrastructure. The ultimate challenge comes with the crossing of Tilman Pass at 5,320 meters. This demanding section requires good physical fitness, previous high-altitude trekking experience, proper acclimatization, and suitable equipment. Weather and snow conditions can make the pass considerably more challenging, adding an expedition-style character to the journey. After crossing the pass, the trek continues through the remote lake region of Dudh Pokhari and Tin Pokhari, eventually reaching the sacred Panch Pokhari, meaning "Five Lakes." Surrounded by dramatic Himalayan landscapes, Panch Pokhari is an important pilgrimage destination and one of the trek's most distinctive highlights. The route then gradually descends through quieter mountain landscapes toward the lower hills before returning to Kathmandu. With its combination of Langtang culture, high-altitude wilderness, Tilman Pass, remote camping, and Panch Pokhari, this trek is particularly suited to experienced trekkers seeking a less-traveled Himalayan adventure. Travel Itinerary
Your Tilman Pass Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu toward Syabrubesi, the main gateway to the Langtang region. The journey follows winding mountain roads through the hills of central Nepal, passing rural settlements, terraced farmland, rivers, and forested landscapes. As you approach Syabrubesi, the surrounding mountains become increasingly prominent. After arriving, you can rest and prepare for the trekking days ahead. Syabrubesi is a lively mountain settlement with basic lodges, shops, and trekking facilities. Overnight at a local teahouse in Syabrubesi.
After breakfast, begin trekking from Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. The trail initially passes through traditional settlements and then enters the lush forests of Langtang National Park. You will walk through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, maple, and bamboo while crossing several small streams and suspension bridges. The trail gradually gains altitude as it follows the river upstream. The peaceful forest environment and occasional views of surrounding hills make this a pleasant introduction to the Langtang trekking route. After several hours of walking, arrive at Lama Hotel, a small settlement surrounded by forest. Overnight at a teahouse.
The trail continues through the forest following the Langtang Khola and gradually climbs toward the higher reaches of the valley. As you gain elevation, the forest begins to open and the landscape becomes more alpine, with better views of Langtang Lirung and other surrounding peaks. Along the way, you pass through small settlements and yak-grazing areas before reaching Ghoda Tabela, an important stop on the route. From here, the trail continues through increasingly open terrain toward Langtang Village. The village and surrounding valley provide an opportunity to experience the culture and traditions of the local Tamang and Himalayan communities. Overnight at a teahouse in Langtang Village.
