Travel Itinerary
Upon arrival at Tambolaka Airport in Waitabula, you'll be warmly greeted by your driver and guide from the Explore Sumba Team. Before we embark on our journey, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we’ll visit Rumah Budaya Sumba (Sumba Cultural House), an excellent starting point to learn about the island’s rich heritage. The house is built in the traditional Sumbanese style, and the surrounding grounds feature Marapu stone carvings. Here, you’ll find an intriguing collection of artifacts, including ikat textiles, stone and wood carvings, traditional jewelry, and everyday items that reflect the local culture.
Next, we’ll head to the Talasi Estate Factory, where you can witness locals producing Sumbanese cashews and coffee. They will guide you through their farm, offering insights into the Talasi community and their farming practices. You'll also have the opportunity to taste freshly made cashew milk and weejewa coffee, produced right on-site by the farmers.
Afterwards, we’ll check in at your hotel for a bit of rest before heading out to catch the stunning sunset from Lendongara Hill. This tranquil spot offers breathtaking views of the hills, the ocean in the distance, and the panorama of nearby villages. After enjoying the sunset, we’ll return to the hotel for the evening.
Meals: LunchBreakfast at the hotel sets the stage for an exciting day as we explore the stunning South-West region of Sumba Island. Our first stop is Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear oasis perfect for swimming and relaxation. Take your time to enjoy a refreshing dip, and don’t miss the chance to wander around the rocky outcrops and reefs, where you can also gaze out at the ocean.
Next to Weekuri Lake is Mandorak Beach, flanked by two impressive rock formations that create a striking backdrop for the pristine, turquoise waters. Since there are no restaurants in the area, we’ll provide lunch boxes for you to enjoy while soaking in the scenery.
After lunch, we’ll visit Ratenggaro Village, renowned for its traditional high-roofed houses—some of the tallest in all of Sumba. Each house is handcrafted in the traditional style and can accommodate up to 50 family members. This village is one of the few remaining traditional communities, and during the harvest season, most villagers work in the fields, leaving only the elders and children behind. The village's beauty is accentuated by its beachfront location.
Following our visit to the village, we’ll head to Pero Beach to watch the sunset, a perfect way to end the day. After taking in the breathtaking views, we’ll return to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
